DCGC Flower Show

Blooms & Bees: The Buzz in the Garden - 1

The Dade City Garden Club holds an NGC Small-Standard Flower Show every other year. The purpose of an NGC Flower Show is to educate club members and the viewing public; to stimulate interest in horticulture and floral design; to provide an outlet for creative expression; and to communicate NGC goals and objectives. After the particpants' entries are judged by accredited FFGC Judges, the show is open to the public. Floral Design Classes are available prior to the show. Educational Exhibits are also part of the show.

The Dade City Garden Club has a long and respected history of hosting flower shows. The founding members presented their first show in March of 1949, less than one year after the Dade City Garden Club was accepted for federation with the Florida Federation of Garden Clubs. Following that first event was a succession of many more shows over the years, several of which won outstanding honors within the garden club community.

General Rules of Dade City Garden Club’s NGC Flower Show

  • This NGC Small-Standard Flower Show conforms to the standards established by the National Garden Clubs, Inc. (NGC). The Handbook for Flower Shows, (HB) 2017 Edition, with revisions, posted on the NGC website and in the online version of The National Gardener (TNG), is the authority for all issues not covered by the Schedule, which is the Law of the Show.
  • Competition in Design and Horticulture Divisions is open to members of the Dade City Garden Club and by invitation. Education Division entries are by invitation to DCGC members.
  • Pre-registration is required for all entries. Pre-registration forms are available from the Chair of each division and are available online.
  • All exhibits will be judged by National Garden Club accredited judges. Decisions by judges are final; awards may be withheld if not merited.
  • Each exhibitor is limited to one entry per class, except for the Horticulture Division—so long as each entry is a different species, variety, cultivar, type, or color.
