Dade City Garden Club marks 27th Anniversary of Arbor Day/Memorial Tree Celebration
The Dade City Garden Club will host its annual Arbor Day and Memorial Tree Celebration on Thursday, April 28, 2022, at the Garden Club, 13630 5th Street, Dade City, FL, at 10 am. The Garden Club is extending a special invitation to the public to join them for this special event to celebrate Arbor Day and to honor the tree recipients. This year marks the 27th year that the City of Dade City and the Dade City Garden Club have jointly sponsored the Arbor Day/Memorial Tree program.
Memorial trees that have been given throughout the year will be recognized. Trees are dedicated in memory or in honor of a person or special occasion and are living and lasting tributes that add beauty for the city and quality to the environment. The City will honor the Dade City Garden Club with an Arbor Day Proclamation at the April 26th City Commissioner meeting beginning at 5:30 pm.
Invasive Plants of Central Florida
So, what’s the big deal about invasive plants? They are often beautiful and easy to grow. What’s not to like?
If you want to learn “What’s the big deal?”, be sure to attend the Dade City Garden Club’s March general membership meeting, where Jim Moll, Master Gardener Volunteer Manager with Pasco County UF/IFAS Extension, will tell us what they are, where they come from, why they are a problem and what we can do.
Jim has worked at the Scott Arboretum of Swarthmore College (PA) and Bok Tower Gardens in Lake Wales Florida. For 13 years he served as Urban Horticulture Extension Agent for Hernando County. Jim now serves the residents of Pasco County since 2013, first as the Florida-Friendly Landscaping TM Program Manager and currently as Master Gardener Volunteer Manager, by answering gardening questions and teaching Florida-Friendly gardening classes, training Master Gardener Volunteers and professionals in the Green Industries Best Management Practices.
